An Analogical Learner for Morphological Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Analogical learning is based on a twostep inference process: (i) computation of a structural mapping between a new and a memorized situation; (ii) transfer of knowledge from the known to the unknown situation. This approach requires the ability to search for and exploit such mappings, hence the need to properly define analogical relationships, and to efficiently implement their computation. In this paper, we propose a unified definition for the notion of (formal) analogical proportion, which applies to a wide range of algebraic structures. We show that this definition is suitable for learning in domains involving large databases of structured data, as is especially the case in Natural Language Processing (NLP). We then present experimental results obtained on two morphological analysis tasks which demonstrate the flexibility and accuracy of this approach.

ART (Analogical Reflection Tool): using analogies to promote reflection in science education
There are two basic categories of reflection, according to where the learner reflects on. In self-reflection, the learner reflects on her/his own actions, while in comparative reflection the learner reflects on others’ actions. We propose an alternative reflection type, as a subcategory of the comparative reflection, the analogical reflection. In analogical reflection, students reflect on analo...
متن کاملMorphology and Language Acquisition
Morphology is language specific and must be acquired on the basis of particular linguistic data. This chapter addresses three central issues for the understanding of morphological acquisition: the distributional properties of morphology, the mechanisms of learning from data, and the developmental patterns and trajectories in child language. First, corpus studies of child directed language revea...
متن کاملTeacher Wait-Time and Learner Initiation: A Single Case Analysis
The prevailing pattern of classroom interaction is a tripartite exchange structure known as IRF (teacher initiation, student response, teacher follow-up/feedback; Sinclair & Coulthard, 1975). Although it has its own contributions to classroom discourse, it has been criticized on several grounds, particularly for affording minimum learner participation opportunities (Kasper, 2001). An alternativ...
متن کاملAutomatic morphological analysis of learner Hungarian
In this paper, we describe a morphological analyzer for learner Hungarian, built upon limited grammatical knowledge of Hungarian. The rule-based analyzer requires very few resources and is flexible enough to do both morphological analysis and error detection, in addition to some unknown word handling. As this is work-in-progress, we demonstrate its current capabilities, some areas where analysi...
متن کاملA Study of the Saturation of Analogical Grids Agnostically Extracted from Texts
Analogical grids aim to capture the organization of the lexicon of a language. We conduct experiments on analogical grids extracted in four different languages with different morphological richness. We study the saturation of analogical grids against their size. We observe that the logarithm of the saturation of an analogical grid is linear in the logarithm of its size. More surprisingly, the c...
